Mood and Music Monday: 9/5/16

Hello, everybody! Happy Labor Day, and welcome to this week’s Mood and Music Monday!

Mood and Music Monday is a weekly meme I’ve started, wherein I’ll post a song and talk about how it relates to my day/week, as well as a few other things. (And, in case anyone’s wondering, this meme has no relation to Lauren’s [from Always Me] “Music Mondays.”) Feel free to participate and to leave a link to your posts down in the comments!

Here’s the update for this week:

SONG(S) OF THE WEEK

What are you listening to? This week, I discovered the Irish artist Hozier, so I’ve been listening to a lot of his stuff. I love its sound: a blend-up of jazz and folk. His smoky voice makes it work really well. He takes really dark, serious subjects (like death and abuse) and gives them a soft and tender musical atmosphere, and the result is a clever blend of the familiar and the new. It’s very different from anything I’ve ever heard. “From Eden” is the one I’ve been listening to the most, but I’ve also enjoyed others, like “Like Real People Do,” “Cherry Wine,” and “In A Week,” which is simultaneously morbid and sweet. Another one I really like is “It Will Come Back”; the lyrics are really, really relatable.

What are you reading? I finished Elite, and I’m still working through Throne of Glass. I hope to finish the latter tonight. School has taken up all my time.

What are you drinking? Kombucha and water. Maybe I should drink some caffeine to keep me awake. 😉

Any goals for this week?  Read and write consistently in the midst of schoolwork. A tall order? Maybe, maybe not.

How about you?

  • What song(s) are you listening to today?
  • What is your current read? Are you enjoying it?
  • Do you have any plans or goals for this week?
